Famà helicopters renounces Gorizia
The entrepreneur-founder: «Too much chatter and hunger aids. In January the agreement to open in San Marino. Initially I would have offered 100 jobs which would have increased to 200, if not 300 when fully operational "
They take it for granted. Gorizia's “Duca d'Aosta” airport will host a helicopter factory that will bring jobs and contribute to the birth of the much-vaunted aeronautical hub. Who is so sure? All. From the Airport spa (or rather a consortium company) to the Municipality, from the Province to the Chamber of Commerce.
But today it turns out that we will see that company with ... binoculars, in the sense that it will not be hosted in our city, but elsewhere: San Marino, Austria, perhaps China, not around here. And it risks being yet another missed opportunity in a land that does not boast large industrial settlements.
The announcement comes from Nino Famà, owner, creator and deus ex machina of the Modena-based “Famà helicopters” who wanted to open his turbine helicopter factory in the area of the Duca d'Aosta airport. The area that had been chosen was (and still is) on the other side of the airport, in the area that housed the Bramo company. In Gorizia the aim was to produce the bodywork while in Slovenia the engines had to be built: this is because in the neighboring country the engine certification process is much leaner and faster than in Italy. But it all fell apart.
Famà, why won't you open your company in Gorizia?
Because, up to now, only so much chatter has been produced. I was contacted several months ago, then no one spoke again. I needed € 2 million to start the business - money that I would, of course, repay once the company took off and developed. Instead, they made me a starvation offer.
How much was it?
Five hundred thousand euros: a quarter of the amount I would need. Understand that this is not going anywhere. Only one person, namely Adriano Ceccherini ( Pipistrel project manager , ed.), Has tried them all and tried to favor the arrival of my company in Gorizia as much as possible. But he too realized he was bumping into the many chatter.
What are you doing now? Will he open the company elsewhere? Are there any contacts?
Of course there are contacts. And they are so far advanced that we should reach an agreement in January. Offers came from Austria, China and other countries as well. In the end, we will probably open the plant in San Marino.
What kind of employment benefits will “Famà helicopters” bring?
Initially, 100 people will be introduced to my company. Then, when fully operational, I believe that we could reach a staff of 200 to 300 employees. I am convinced that in a few years more than someone in Gorizia will eat their hands in the face of this missed opportunity.
So, are there no more possibilities for Gorizia?
I really do not think so. By now the contacts are so advanced with the other subjects that the agreement is very close. You understand: an entrepreneur needs certainties and I, to date, have only heard words.
How was your company born?
Famà helicopters was born in 2009 with the realization of the new KISS 209M project, designed and built by myself. After twenty years of experience in the construction and testing of helicopter kits, which began as a passion alongside the activities of motor racing, automotive and mechanical construction, I decided to devote myself solely to the construction of helicopters with the Kiss 209M project. Already from the age of 12 Nino Famà had a passion for design, construction and for speed, making a small car in iron and wood with a 50 cc engine. Then, the business has developed over the years and the rest is history today.
